Portrait Of... David & Maribel Family (Ovelar Studios, 18 Sep 2010)

This assignment has maybe been the most pleasant I got since I open my Photo Studio at Palma St.

Daved came one day and told me his family have make a portrait 23 years ago. He asked me about the chance to repeat it chasing the original one ambient.

The original portrait was taken by the photographer Pablo Neustadt. I recommended you to visit his website, www.pabloneustadt.com. His works about wine-producing companies in color and the one about jazz musicians in black and white are absolutely great, out of the currently trick we can see into digital photography, trick as a fault that can be applied to me...

When I see the picture, I t thought the portrait has been taken with a single light and that halo around family was got, or at least boosted using a darkroom technic, just blocking the light into enlarger to dark the space around subjects. Shadows bellow nose show that light position was over the subjects and deep shadows on the right that a reflector wasn’t used.

I learnt photography at analogical times, but I work 100% digital now. So I would have to emulate the light block using digital tricks... Only think I asked for to my customers was about the chance to kill that shadow under nose and eyes using a fill light and putting the main one down.
